Week 4

Game Recap

The Spy Ponders faced a tough challenge on Friday, falling 21-49 to Stoneham. Early in the game, Arlington struggled to create scoring opportunities, while their defense had difficulty containing Stoneham’s unconventional double-wing offense. The Ponders had issues with turnovers and negative plays but were still able to put up 21 points. Ori Forest led the ground attack, running hard for two touchdowns, while Alexi Trapotsis had a standout performance through the air with seven catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. Despite the loss, the Ponders showed determination and fought till the end.

Looking ahead to the next game

The Ponders will face off against league rival Lexington this Friday. Lexington is 2-1 on the season, coming off a 28-13 win over Acton-Boxborough. Last year’s matchup between Arlington and Lexington was a close game, with Lexington coming out on top with a 27-24 victory. To prepare, Arlington is focusing on the fundamentals and practicing hard to ensure they’re fully ready for the challenge. The team has been addressing key areas from last week, including ball security, tackling, and rallying to the football.

The Ponders are turning the page on the Stoneham game, not forgetting it but using it as an opportunity to motivate and better themselves. The Coaches remain confident in the team’s abilities, knowing they have the talent to win tough games. With a 0-0 record in the Middlesex League, Arlington is eager and determined to compete in their first league game on Friday.

Come out and support the Spy Ponders as they play Lexington this Friday, September 27, at 6 p.m. on Pierce Field. Be there to cheer on the Ponders as they face off against their league rival in what is expected to be an exciting game.

Player Q&A

This week I interviewed Junior Ori Forest, a talented running back and linebacker. Ori has had a great start to the season by playing a key role in helping the Ponders score numerous touchdowns. He began playing football in 8th grade during COVID, when there wasn’t much else to do. Ori’s favorite aspect of football is the brotherhood and camaraderie that comes with the game. His most memorable moment on the field occurred last year when, after a season of limited opportunities, he received the ball against Haverhill and sprinted 50 yards for a touchdown.

Ori’s strengths as a player are the energy and aggression he brings to the field on every play, ensuring his opponents feel his presence. This is his first year starting at running back and he’s focused on improving his football IQ while running the ball. Like many of his teammates, Ori’s favorite team tradition is team dinners on the bleachers, where they gather to prepare for the next day’s game.

Outside of football, Ori also plays lacrosse, which translates well into football. He believes that football has taught him valuable lessons in responsibility and discipline that will influence him for the rest of his life. Ori’s goals for this season include beating the teams he has yet to defeat during his time on the AHS Football Team and helping the team secure a league title.
